Forever Green Tree Program

What is the Forever Green Tree Program?
The Richland Township Park program provides a special long-lasting way of commemorating a special event such as a wedding, an anniversary, or the birth of a child.  It is also a fitting tribute and living memorial to a loved one.  By purchasing a tree through the Forever Green Tree program, your memories will be kept forever close to your heart.

How do I donate a tree?
For a one-time donation of $500, a tree will be planted at the park.  Donors may choose from the following trees:
    European Beech
    European Hornbeam
    Red Sunset Maple
    River Birch Clump
    White Oak
    Red Oak
    Greenspire Linden
    October Glory Maple

Additionally, your commemorative gift will be immortalized by a beautiful, engraved plaque  that will be mounted at the base of your tree.

For the plaque, you may select a standard inscription or create your own message (using an allotted number of characters).  As the donor of the tree, you will also receive a certificate of acknowledgement, recognizing your donation.

Details about the program
All trees chosen for planting are 2½ to 3 inches in diameter, since young trees this size have the best chance of survival after transplanting.  In the event that your tree dies, the Richland Township Park will ensure that a similar, new tree is planted in its place as promptly as schedules and weather allow.

The park district planning department's landscape architects have chosen varieties of trees that are suited to the park's soil conditions and location.  Detailed description of the tree selection is available upon request.

The trees will be moved into their new homes in the spring or fall, in conjunction with the park district's planting schedule.

Significance of the program
First and foremost, your participation guarantees a lasting, living commemoration of a special event or individual.  A newly planted tree is truly a gift that keeps on giving.  Secondly, the recognition of the individual/event is enhanced through the engraved commemorative plaque, as it shares your memories with anyone who sees it.  Lastly, the planting of trees provides many added benefits to our environment:
Trees absorb carbon dioxide (CO2) and convert it into the oxygen we breath.
The roots of trees often trap pollutants that would normally contaminate ground water.
Trees also hold soil in place, and dead trees leaves return nutrients to the ground.
Trees also assist in climate control, reduce air conditioning costs, and air pollution.
Trees provide shelter and breeding places for wildlife.

Additionally, a long-lasting gift such as this serves as a perpetual reminder of those people and events that make our lives special and make us whole.

Forever Green ensures forever cherished.  Give the gift that cultivates the earth and keeps important memories alive.
